If you have an equation inside the brackets used for absolute value, you solve the equation and then find the absolute value of the answer, correct?

Yes, you do. If you have |2-5|, you would do 2-5 and then do the absolute value of -3. However, if you had |2| - 5, you would do the absolute value of 2 and then subtract 5. Good question! :)
